Getting away before your birth day.

Getting away before your birth day.

It is tempting to take a dream vacation before you’ll be home with the new baby. Here are some things to consider while planning your getaway.

Choose a destination that it doesn’t pose any health risks such as malaria, Zika virus, yellow or dengue fever. These are dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn children. Be sure to find out about necessary vaccinations or vaccination boosters and, if necessary, get a prescription for medication. Altitudes over 2500 meters, strenuous tours, and extreme heat can also be dangerous.

Travel during the second trimester, when nausea has gone and you are still comfortably mobile, is usually best. In the last trimester, long car journeys or complicated air travel can be difficult. Starting the 35th week, there is a heightened risk of thrombosis, so flying is often no longer advised. Many airlines require a report from your doctor stating that you are in good condition to fly. Discussing your travel plans with your doctor in advance is a good idea.

Once you arrive at your destination, be sure to drink plenty of liquids. Enjoy light meals and stay away from raw fish, raw eggs, and half-cooked meats. The rule is: cook, boil it, peel it – or leave it.

Your body needs additional rest and relaxation during pregnancy. Be sure weave in quiet days when planning your trip. What wonderful memories these will be – have a great time!
